His fingers were numb. The earth was like ice beneath his nails, but all he could feel was a nagging desire to find something below this hardened clay. He wasn’t sure what he was hoping to find. He just knew he had to do something to abate this feeling. So he drove almost seven hundred miles from his Canadian home to a field in east Kentucky with nothing but the clothes on his back and instinct.
